My #ALSIceBucketChallenge supporting @mndassoc & @charitywater

Hi Rob Gardner here live from the shower cubicle at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.

Thank you Liz Pfeuti @lizp30, European Editor at AI CIO for nominating me for the #ALSIceBucketChallenge. The #ALSIceBucketChallenge was started by Pete Frates @PeteFrates3 who was diagnosed with ALS 2 years ago, aged 27. Pete was a former professional baseball player. If you want to understand more please watch this video by ESPN @ESPN “Petes Challenge” which tells Pete’s story and how he inspired the #ALSIceBucketChallenge

ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In the UK it’s known as Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and over 400,000 people world wide suffer from it. Stephen Hawkin the famous theoretical physicist has MND which is why he is in a wheel chair and communicates with a speech device. #ALS / #MND is a fatal, progressive disease that can rob people of their ability to speak, move and breathe. How can you help? Please make a donation. In the US the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has raised over $100M in just a month. If you want to donate to the ALS association @alsassociation please donate here.

I will be donating £100 to the Motor Neurone Disease Association @mndassoc – £100 provides vital information to ten people newly diagnosed with MND.

And £100 ($160) to charity:water @charitywater – Because Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than war.

Who next?

I would like to nominate my business partner

  1. Dawid Konotey-Ahulu @Dawid1
  2. Stu Breyer @StuBreyer from Mallowstreet and
  3. Richard Farr @Richardefarr head of Pensions advisory at BDO

Good luck guys!
